N°5 Eau de Parfum is the very essence of femininity.
In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel asked Ernest Beaux to create a rare and powerful "woman's perfume with a woman's scent." The nose presented her with a visionary composition that made unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle chose the fifth sample of the fragrance and decided to simply name it N°5. For this new fragrance, she chose a bottle with a revolutionary design, adorned with a white label and topped with a faceted cabochon.
In 1986, the Parfum created by Ernest Beaux was reinterpreted, resulting in a fuller version of N°5: the Eau de Parfum.

COMPOSITION

N°5 EAU DE PARFUM
The floral bouquet, composed around May rose and jasmine, features bright citrus top notes. Aldehydes give it a unique presence, and the smooth touch of vanilla leaves an incredibly sensual trail.

N°5 L’EAU
N°5 L’EAU makes citrus shine. Top notes of lemon, mandarin and orange are elevated by aldehydes, followed by a profusion of flowers. Rose melds with airy jasmine and a fraction of ylang-ylang, more modern than ever. Behind this floral whirlwind, vetiver and cedar impart a novel dynamism, softened by white musk notes. Never has N°5 been so natural. So fresh.

INSPIRATION

In 2016, Olivier Polge, CHANEL In-House Perfumer-Creator, reinvented N°5 and demonstrated the extent to which its flawless structure is an inspiration. With the finesse of a goldsmith, he dissected the original formula and captured each ingredient in order to understand its true role in the scent. Olivier Polge strived to create a new balance with an ideal dose of freshness, capturing in turn the essence of his generation. N°5 L’EAU is the N°5 of today.
